About Equine Assisted Learning

EAL is a unique approach and experience where CLIENTS are offered safe experiences
with horses for the purposes of:
- Personal development
- Social and emotional skill building
- Relationship skill building
- Enhancing quality of life
- Leadership and team building

It is EXPERIENTAL LEARNING with HORSES, where clients can learn about themselves and learn valuable life skills with the support of horses.
- No experience with horses is necessary.
- Awareness of SAFETY is maintained and discussed before and during the learning sessions.
- All sessions and information are completely CONFIDENTIAL.
- Sessions can focus on client’s individual learning goal and/or “ see what shows up” during the session.
- All activities , communication and practitioner interaction follow the EPI Code of Conduct.
- All horses that belong to Heard by the Herd are very healthy, happy and have taken part in client sessions before.
Sarah's Passionate Purpose
Sarah is passionate about working with and promoting learning with Secondary School aged young people. Her skills are very diverse as she has spent 15 years supporting students with:
- Diverse and different abilities
- A range of disabilities , for example, ASD, hearing, sight and intellectual disabilities, Down Syndrome, ADHD and Dyslexia.
- Low level Mathematics and Literacy skills
- Culturally diverse students, for example, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, South Sea Islander and those where English is a second language .
Although her experience lies predominantly within these diverse groups, Sarah welcomes the opportunity to work with younger children and adults to promote the benefits of awareness and life-long learning.

Programs & Sessions
Horse Wisdom Program
This runs over 8 weeks ( 1 session per week x 8).
The Horse Wisdom program progresses through sessions which aim at building social-emotional skills, including asserting boundaries and awareness.
This program is particularly suitable for children and adolescents but can be tailored towards adults too.

Individual or two people sessions for 1 hour
Small group sessions will happen soon!!
Sessions involve Sarah (Practitioner), you (The Client) and one or two horses.
Sessions can focus on a particular issue or concern that you may have or a learning goal.
Sessions can be tailored to a variety of clients’ needs, for example, for a particular ability, disability, fear of horses etc.
The number and frequency of sessions can vary to suit you, the client’s, needs and requirements.
Wear sun-protective clothing, a hat, closed- in shoes and bring a water bottle as sessions will take place outside in mostly shady areas where possible.
